Overview

Learning Management System (LMS) integration with ProQuest is yet another way academic and school libraries can support the research, teaching, and learning workflow for their institutions. With this recent enhancement, the ProQuest Platform is now certified to meet the IMS Global Learning Consortium’s current version 1.3 standard for learning tools interoperability (LTI). Once set-up, instructors can seamlessly link to their institution’s ProQuest content from within their learning management system, and without leaving their course environment. Students get direct access to the content without having to separately log in to ProQuest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is happening with the ProQuest platform?
The ProQuest platform is now certified LTI compliant by the IMS Global Learning Consortium, meeting their current v1.3 standard for Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). LTI integration for ProQuest makes it easy for faculty and teachers to embed links to ProQuest documents for their students to access via their institution’s Learning Management System. This allows students to access and use the resources they need without having to separately log in to ProQuest databases. This enhancement is the latest step in ProQuest’s mission to make content easier to find and access for our users.

What is Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI)?
Learning Tools Interoperability—sometimes referred to as “LTI”—represents a single standard by which educational technology providers such as ProQuest can seamlessly link items of content with the major Learning Management Systems (LMS). The LTI standard is set by IMS Global—a non-profit collaborative advancing EdTech interoperability, innovation, and learning impact.

Is ProQuest IMS Global certified?
Yes, the ProQuest platform is IMS Global certified for Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) v1.3.  ProQuest’s certification can be found here.

What functionality does LTI offer?
Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) offers the ability to embed links to ProQuest content from within a course, assignment, or reading list into a Learning Management System. When selected by a student from within their learning management system, the links provide direct and seamless access to ProQuest content, bypassing authentication requirements.

Which Learning Management Systems does ProQuest integrate with?
Currently, ProQuest provides documentation to support integration with Blackboard, Canvas, and Moodle. In the future, we anticipate providing documentation to support integration with Schoology and Brightspace.

When will Brightspace and Schoology become available for integration with ProQuest?
ProQuest is collaborating with Brightspace, and Schoology to set up future integrations as part of the 2023 roadmap for version 1.3 LTI integration with ProQuest.

What ProQuest content can I integrate with my Learning Management System?
The ProQuest Platform is compliant with the latest version 1.3 standard for learning tools interoperability. Once the integration is set up, any content that your institution has access to via the ProQuest Platform can be pulled into a course environment within your institution’s learning management system. For example, students can access journal articles, ebooks, video, primary source documents, newspaper reports, and other materials your institution has access to via ProQuest databases.

Once integrated, is there a way to view content in a separate tab or separate window rather than within the iframe?
Yes. The ability to direct users to view content in a tab is managed within the LMS software itself.
