TitleEbook Central Admin: Customizing the Length of Full Ebook Downloads and Loans
SummaryUse LibCentral to customize the loan or download duration for owned and subscribed ebooks.
Content
Libraries can customize the loan or download duration for owned and subscribed ebooks by access model, or for owned books, they can customize it by individual title.

To customize the number of loan or download lengths allowed for owned and subscribed ebooks by access model:

  • Go to LibCentral > Settings > Access Permissions
  • Click on the name of the permission ID (often labeled "Default" or "General" or a custom name)
  • Go to the "owned tab"
  • In the text boxes to the right of the heading "Download Days," enter the number of download days allowed for each access model type. Libraries can set any number of download lengths by entering multiple numbers separated by commas (example: 1, 2, 7, 21)
  • Hourly Loan Options: Hourly loans are enabled by clicking the checkbox. Once enabled, patrons have the option to enter any hourly amount between 1 and 23 hours in the download modal when downloading the book (librarians do not pre-select hourly loan options, anything between 1 and 23 hours will be available).
    • This checkbox only enables hourly loans for owned titles at the 1U, 3U, and UA access models, excluding Course Reserve titles. Titles owned as Course Reserve are only available as 1, 2 or 3 hour loans and are preset. Hourly loans are not available for subscription titles.
  • Save settings

To set the number of loan or download days allowed for an individual owned title, use Book Level Permissions:

  • Go to the ebook's full record in LibCentral
  • Under the heading "Book Level Permissions" (in the bottom right corner), click "edit"
  • Enter the number of download days allowed for the access model. Libraries can set any number of download lengths by entering multiple numbers separated by commas (example: 1, 2, 7, 21). Entering just 0 for download days will disable downloading for that title.
  • Save

NOTE: Book Level Permissions only change the loan lengths available for that title. They do not disable the following Access Permission settings on the Owned tab: "Preserve 3-user reader access," "Preserve reader access for one user if multiple copies of a 1-user title are owned," or "Do not allow downloads when only one copy of a 1-user title is owned." They also do not override the General tab setting "Permit Downloads." Book Level Permissions are only available for your owned titles.
