Why is search.proquest.com redirecting me to www.proquest.com?
Overview
In August 2020, we made www.proquest.com the new home of the ProQuest Platform to make it easier for users to remember the URL and connect with their library’s ProQuest content. To make this change as seamless as possible, we kept https://search.proquest.com running in parallel with www.proquest.com and did not enable redirects from the legacy domain (https://search.proquest.com).
On May 10, 2021, to optimize our SEO with Google and other search engines, ProQuest will begin redirecting all traffic from http://search.proquest.com to www.proquest.com.
The impact for most libraries will be minimal.
Users at customers with standard setups will have no issues accessing the platform, via the www.proquest.com or https://search.proquest.com URL’s. Users following a https://search.proquest.com URL will seamlessly be redirected to their requested destination at www.proquest.com .
This change only impacts the databases hosted on the ProQuest Platform (www.proquest.com) , such as ProQuest Central and ABI/INFORM. Other ProQuest.com URLs that do not begin with “search” (such as explore.proquest.com or gateway.proquest.com) are not affected by this change.
Potential impacts
Note: Impacts on most libraries will be minimal, however customers using the set ups noted below may experience some issues:
- Libraries or users with settings that block or protect against URL redirects
-
- However, if your library uses https://search.proquest.com as your “approved” site, but not www.proquest.com as equally approved, the redirect may get blocked. In this instance, you will need to update your institutions settings to accommodate www.proquest.com. We cannot change them on the ProQuest side.
- Libraries with proxy settings that reference https://search.proquest.com, instead of the whole proquest.com domain.
- If your library’s proxy settings reference search.proquest.com as opposed to our recommended settings, you may find that redirects to www.proquest.com do not get properly proxied.
