Overview

Learning Management System (LMS) integration with ProQuest is yet another way academic and school libraries can support the research, teaching and learning workflow for their institutions. With this recent enhancement, the ProQuest Platform is now certified to meet the IMS Global Learning Consortium’s current version 1.3 standard for learning tools interoperability (LTI). Once set-up, instructors can seamlessly link to their institution’s ProQuest content from within their learning management system, and without leaving their course environment. Students get direct access to the content without having to separately log-in to ProQuest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is happening with the ProQuest platform?
The ProQuest platform is now certified LTI compliant by the IMS Global Learning Consortium, meeting their current v1.3 standard for Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). LTI integration for ProQuest makes it easy for faculty and teachers to embed links to ProQuest documents for their students to access via their institution’s Learning Management System. This allows students to access and use the resources they need without having to separately log-in to ProQuest databases. This enhancement is the latest step in ProQuest’s mission to make content easier to find and access for our users.

Which Learning Management Systems does ProQuest integrate with?
Currently, ProQuest provides documentation to support integration with Canvas and Moodle. In the future, we anticipate providing documentation to support integration with Blackboard and Schoology.

What is Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI)?
Learning Tools Interoperability—sometimes referred to as “LTI”—represents a single standard by which educational technology providers such as ProQuest can seamlessly link items of content with the major Learning Management Systems (LMS). The LTI standard is set by IMS Global—a non-profit collaborative advancing EdTech interoperability, innovation, and learning impact.

What functionality does LTI offer?
Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) offers the ability to embed links to ProQuest content from within a course, assignment, or reading list into a Learning Management System. When selected by a student from within their learning management system, the links provide direct and seamless access to ProQuest content, bypassing authentication requirements.

How do I integrate my Learning Management System with ProQuest?
Integrating your Learning Management System with ProQuest consists of a one-time set-up process that will take approximately 20 minutes. Links to detailed set-up instructions appear at the top of this page.

If you experience difficulties or errors during the set-up process, please contact ProQuest Technical Support for assistance. Before you begin, make sure to have the following information:  What ProQuest content can I integrate with my Learning Management System?
The ProQuest Platform is compliant with the latest version 1.3 standard for learning tools interoperability. Once the integration is set-up, any content that your institution has access to via the ProQuest Platform can be pulled into a course environment within your institution’s learning management system. For example, students can access journal articles, video, primary source documents, newspaper reports and other materials your institution has access to via ProQuest databases.

Will the integration be at the course level or will it need to be installed for a sub-domain like an entire school district or university site?
The integration capability is designed to work at the sub-domain level for the learning management system (e.g. entire school district, entire school, entire academic institution).

Will the integration include any rostering or collection of student data?
No student data is collected as part of integrating your learning management system with ProQuest.

Is there an additional fee for this LMS integration with ProQuest?
No, there is no additional fee for our customers to use this functionality. This is part of ProQuest’s ongoing effort to make finding, accessing and using content easier for students.
