Welcome
ProQuest offers a range of scholarly and valuable film study resources for libraries.
ProQuest’s popular film study databases are now live on the ProQuest platform. This move is helping ProQuest meet the needs of today’s researchers and research workflows by providing an intuitive search environment with better cross-search capabilities between film databases – all in a new modern interface.
Key Benefits:
The new interface will meet the needs of today’s researchers and research workflows by providing:
- Cross-search a range of complementary resources such as Historical Newspapers, Performing Arts Database, and Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive, and the range of ProQuest Film Studies resources: Film Index International, American Film Institute Catalog and FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals/Plus
- Intuitive, natural searching with advanced capabilities
- Clean interface that responds to the user's device
- Improved inbound experience from other discovery services
New Screen Studies Collection!
ProQuest has created Screen Studies Collection which will act as a powerful means of cross-searching American Film Institute Catalog (AFI), Film Index International (FII) and FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals Database. Customers who have all three of these indexes have automatically received this product, which replaced the existing Film Indexes Online (FIO) and will allow researchers a greater search experience across these highly complementary databases!
Screen Studies Collection offers additional benefits to researchers as well. Here are just a few:
- Superior research experience over FIO on the legacy products
- Ability to discover diverse content types (film records, people records, journal articles and reference entries) in one single, powerful search environment
- Depending on institutional access, link to full text for articles and reviews available via other ProQuest databases such as Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive
- Take advantage of researcher workflow tools available on the ProQuest platform that streamline saving, exporting and citing research as well as constructing bibliographies quickly and intuitively
Another change that has occurred with this upgrade and move of the Film Index products to the ProQuest platform, is a product name change from FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals Plus, to FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals Database. This new product also has a new product code. Customer invoices will reflect a cancellation of the FIAF Index Plus and the addition of FIAF Index Database. The product will continue to function in the same way – this is a simple name change ONLY.
Stay Connected!
- Notify Me: Want to stay up to date? Sign up for updates by clicking "Notify Me" at the top of the page.
- Dual Access period and Legacy system shutdown – Both instances of the Film Studies databases will be available until early April, 2016. We will continue to provide updates and reminders during this period so that customers have updated bookmarks, course materials, etc. as needed.
- Content Updates
- FIAF is updated quarterly. New data will be loaded into the new instance only.
- AFI/FII database upgrades are complete into the new instance only.
- Usage – Legacy usage will not port over to the new interface; however libraries will be able to access data for a year after the upgrade. Customers must request this data.
- Obtaining new collection-level MARC records
- The legacy instance of FII and AFI have database level records only (no journal content)
- Legacy FIAF has one record at the database level, one record for each full-text journal and one record for each reference work.
- Non-journal records will be made available via ProQuest’s FTP site for downloading. We will provide more information when those records are available.
- Discovery services – Both Ex Libris PRIMO and SUMMON will enable the new feed to the new access URL at the time of launch so they can support queries to both the legacy and the new sites until the end of the dual access period. At that time, the instance on the legacy site will be disabled and customers will have to select the new instance.
- Reminders about this move have been posted on the Home Page of each of the individual legacy Film Index products that will be moving.
- MyArchive has been disabled for FIAF users on the legacy site. Users with MyArchive accounts who do not already have a MyResearch account will need to save any searches, create a new MyResearch account and move them over. For customers who already have a MyResearch account, you will simply need to save your searches and move them over.
- Updates are available on the individual product LibGuides.
