ProQuest Contemporary News Databases Content Update - May 2018
Welcome to the May 2018 ProQuest Contemporary News databases content update. This update covers content changes in ProQuest's Contemporary News databases from January - March 2018.
As digital news content continues to grow, we've added more online versions of existing print newspapers, as well as digital-born content to Newsstream resources. See below for key titles added in Q1 2018.
Key highlights
- Politico: At the intersection of politics and policy, this influential and respected global news website was added to Northeast Newsstream, U.S. Newsstream, and Global Newsstream databases.
- NPR Podcasts: Six transcripts of top podcasts from NPR including Embedded, Radio Ambulante and NPR Politics have been added to several Newsstream databases.
- The Korea Times: The oldest English-language newspaper published daily in South Korea, is a timely addition to Asian Newsstream and Global Newsstream.
- Le Parisien: The second largest French regional newspaper, Le Parisien, has been added to the European, International, and Global Newsstream databases along with its national sister paper, Aujourd'hui en France.
- Canadian Online News: The online versions of 10 major Canadian daily newspapers including the National Post, Montreal Gazette, Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal are now available in Canadian Newsstream and Global Newsstream. These online titles supplement the print versions of the newspapers already in product.

ProQuest Contemporary News Databases 2017 Year in Review Content Update - February 2018
The transformation of Contemporary News continued in 2017 with a few major themes in the new content additions. They are the addition of the online versions of major newspapers, non-English language sources, worldwide regional sources, and video.

Nearly two decades of CBS 60 Minutes (1997-2014), television’s most preeminent news program, are now available in US Newsstream as a streaming video news resource with full transcripts.

Sources in various languages have been added to Global Newsstream including for the first time Arabic (from AP and AFP newswires) and additional German sources (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and AFP).

In addition to Agence France Presse (AFP) in 6 languages, two other prominent international news wires were added to Newsstream. Press Association, a London-based service of news-collecting and reporting from around the United Kingdom, was added to European Newsstream and Prensa Latina based in Havana, Cuba, is the first Cuban source in Newsstream.

The online versions of over twenty major regional daily newspapers were added to Newsstream collections including the Baltimore Sun (Online), LA Times (Online), Chicago Tribune (Online), Tampa Bay Times (Online), Toronto Star (Online), and The Times of India (Online).

Sputnik, added to European Newsstream, is a news agency established by the Russian government and headquartered in Moscow. Focusing on a non-Russian audience covering politics and economics, Sputnik is largely seen as a Russian propaganda outlet. This news source is valuable for researchers to understand how the Russian government is positioning news for the rest of the world.
- Many regional newspapers from around the world were added to Newsstream collections in 2017. They include nine regional Canadian daily newspapers from Postmedia. El Diario and Prensa Libre considered the local newspapers of record in Guatemala and ABC Color, the most widely read newspaper in Paraguay were added to Latin American Newsstream.

25 news sources were added to Asian and International Newsstream including the Tehran Times, known as the voice of the Islamic Revolution, the People's Daily, the largest newspaper group in China and an official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, and Haaretz, founded in 1918, the longest running newspaper currently still in print in Israel. Several English language Indian sources were added including Bangalore Mirror, The Mumbai Mirror, and The Economic Times.
- The born-digital site The Austin Bulldog was added to US Regional South Central Newsstream. It is a nonprofit online news site for investigative reporting focused on the city of Austin, Texas.
Content Removed
Nine titles comprising Military Newsstream, including the Army Times, Navy Times, Armed Forces Journal and Defense News were removed. The Military Newsstream database was discontinued as a result.
Four titles from Halifax Media were discontinued including the Worchester (MA)Telegram and Gazette.
Dow Jones discontinued the Wall Street Journal Asia and Wall Street Journal Europe print editions. However, the content was added to the WSJ (Online) resulting in no loss of content to customers.

Welcome to the October 2017 ProQuest Contemporary News databases content update. This update covers content changes in ProQuest's Contemporary News databases from July-September 2017.
We continue to add diverse and global news content sources to our Newsstream products. This quarter's update includes more information about new video content, digital-first content, and online news sources.
- CBS 60 Minutes (1997-2014): Nearly two decades of CBS 60 Minutes (1997-2014)--television’s most preeminent program--are now available in Global Newsstream and U.S. Newsstream as a streaming video news resources and includes full transcripts.
- Prensa Libre, considered the local newspaper of record in Guatemala and ABC Color, the most widely-read newspaper in Paraguay were added to Latin American Newsstream.

- Wall Street Journal Asia and Wall Street Journal Europe: Both of these print editions ceased publication in October. All editorial content was moved to the Wall Street Journal (online) version.

Other key highlights
- Nine regional Canadian daily newspapers were added to Canadian Newsstream.
- Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung was added to European Newsstream. FAZ is a top German newspaper with the widest circulation internationally.

Welcome to the April 2017 ProQuest Contemporary News databases content update. This update covers content changes in ProQuest's Contemporary News databases from January - April 2017.
As digital news content continues to grow, the online versions of five existing print newspapers were added to Newsstream databases in Q1 2017. These include the Toronto Star and the Hamilton Spectator.
Other key highlights
- The Times of India is one of the six leading papers in the world according to the BBC and also the fourth largest paper in India. Its sister newspaper in India, The Economic Times, is the world's second most-widely read English-language business newspaper, after the Wall Street Journal. Both are now major new sources in Newsstream.
- The first Arabic language source, AP Arabic, was added to Newsstream.
- Six feeds from Agence France-Presse (AFP)--the third largest news agency in the world based in Paris, France--were added to Newsstream in German, French, Arabic, English, Spanish and Portuguese.
- Bolivia’s oldest newspaper, La Paz, available in Spanish, was added to Newsstream products.

Factiva Annual Content Update-2016
Factiva enhanced its global content collection in 2016 with the addition of 321 licensed sources and 2,021 crawled websites and blogs.
In 2016, Dow Jones continued to strengthen and expand its global content set by securing licensed content from key metropolitan regions, particularly Latin America and Russia. Overall, 2016 licensed additions include content from more than 65 countries and 15 different languages. Get it here.
