There are several types of IP settings available for the Ebook Central platform. The following IP settings are visible in LibCentral under Settings>System.
Anonymous Access IPs
- This IP setting designates the IP addresses you would like to authorize for site access without requiring a login (see Ebook Central Admin: Authentication, 'Anonymous' and 'Continue as guest' option)
- Anonymous Access IPs only provide access if anonymous access is enabled for your site. You can check if anonymous access is enabled by looking at the ‘Sign In’ setting in your System Settings. If it says Latest Point, you have anonymous access enabled. If you would like to change this setting, contact Ebook Support
- If no Anonymous Access IPs are set, no IPs are authorized for this type of access
- For IP or regular proxy (non-SSO) access, these can be added to give on-campus or proxied users the ability to browse without first signing in
- For SSO models (Athens, shibboleth, or EZproxy SSO), these can be added to give on-campus users the ability to browse without first signing in
Access IPs
- Adding Access IPs RESTRICTS site access to only those IPs. If no Access IPs are set, users can log in to the site from any IP
- For IP or regular proxy (non-SSO) access, if the customer wants offsite users to be required to use the proxy to access, you can set patron access IPs to the onsite and proxy IPs. If you do not set patron access IPs, offsite users will be able to access the Ebook Central login page to sign in with their patron account, without going through the proxy
- For SSO models (Athens, shibboleth, or EZproxy SSO), we do not use this setting because it can prevent offsite access entirely
Download IPs
- This IP setting interacts with Internal vs External options in the LibCentral “Downloads” setting under: Settings > Access Permissions > [Permission ID] > Details
- If you add download IPs, you are designating those IPs as ‘Internal’. If you allow only internal users to download in your access permissions settings, only users from these download IPs can use the full-document download function. If you allow only external users to download, only users OUTSIDE these IPs will be able to download
- If you allow all users to download, the download IPs have no effect
- If no download IPs are set, no IP addresses are designated as 'Internal' for the purposes of restricting downloads
NOTE: IP ranges are limited to 18 bits. If you enter a range larger than 18 bits, you will receive the following error: "IP range not allowed. Please contact the Support Team for assistance."
If your institution's IP range is larger than 18 bits, please contact
Ebook Support.
