Enhancement to ProQuest Statistical Abstract User Interface
On June 1, 2015, the ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the United States and the ProQuest Statistical Abstracts of the World will receive a user interface update. The streamlined look and feel enables researchers to get to the statistics they require more easily. Researchers can search or browse, add facets and narrow down the statistics for their results.
Statistical Abstract of the United States, published annually by the federal government since 1878, is the best known statistical reference publication in the country, and perhaps the world. You’ll find it behind nearly every reference desk in U.S. libraries as the authoritative go-to source. Librarians value the Statistical Abstract as both an answer book and a guide to statistical sources. As a comprehensive collection of statistics on the social, political, and economic conditions of the United States, it is a snapshot of America and its people.
ProQuest has now taken on responsibility for updating and releasing this publication, the most used statistical reference tool in U.S. libraries. We bring to this task 35 years experience acquiring, abstracting, and indexing federal government statistical publications and tables.
For ProQuest Statistical Abstracts of the World: aggregates the statistical abstracts of nearly 50 countries and makes the content available through a single-search interface. These statistical abstracts are generally issued by the national statistical offices of foreign governments and contain country-level data not easily found elsewhere. Global and regional statistical compendia issued by international organizations and research firms are also included.
Users will be able to browse the tabular content of each compendia section by section, apply table-specific filters to narrow results, and search across all content or within a single country as well as view and download a table in a spreadsheet. In its look and feel and overall functionality, the product will resemble ProQuest's Statistical Abstract of the United States--but with much broader coverage of content.
Using both the US and World versions of these databases together allows information seekers to answer simple reference questions or combine information from multiple tables for their own statistical output.
