Steps to Update Links and Proxies

Step 1: Update Your Database Links

Your library administrator or authorized library personnel will need to update your existing URL links for each of the following Digital Microfilm titles to which you subscribe. Unfortunately, ProQuest cannot automatically incorporate redirect links as these titles are moving from a third-party platform provider to the ProQuest platform. Additional configuration may be needed if you are authenticating via proxy server.

What is changing?

What is the timing, and will all titles migrate at the same time?

What should I do once I receive notice that the titles are live?
Update any A-Z links; you may read more about link updating here. Should you wish to customize your institution's platform settings, you may do so via the ProQuest Administrator Module.

What do I have to do in order to update any links?
See the section on this page, Steps to Update Links and Proxies for complete information. You will need to manually replace any legacy Digital Microfilm database link with links to each new ProQuest Digitized Newspapers: Recent Newspapers title.

When will the Digital Microfilm platform be decommissioned?
The legacy Digital Microfilm platform will remain up and running through December 2018.

Is the new ProQuest Digitized Newspapers: Recent Newspapers content discoverable on Summon?
Yes, and it will soon be discoverable in Primo. However, it is not on OCLC or Google Scholar.

Do we need to worry about link resolvers with the new ProQuest Digitized Newspapers: Recent Newspapers product?
No, because the content is page-level based, it does not work with link resolvers.

Can my library set up one link to access the Historical, Recent, and Contemporary News for the same title?
Yes. An administrator can customize setup via the ProQuest Administrator Module. Read more about the steps required to make customizations here.

Will MARC records still be available for Digital Microfilm titles?
Yes, MARC records will be available as each title releases. If you have set up automatic delivery of MARC records, you will get a set of updated records once you access the new, upgraded products. Otherwise, you can request a complete set of MARC records from the ProQuest Administrator Module, which includes relevant added/deleted/changed records.

Will usage stats be available?
Yes. You can access Recent Newspaper usage stats via the ProQuest Administrator Module. For more information about usage stats, visit the ProQuest Administrator Module user guide.

How can I stay updated on changes, and learn more?
To stay updated on any notifications about the ProQuest Digital Microfilm upgrade, such as new technical information, we suggest you use the Notify Me feature on this page to get timely notifications when updates are posted to this article.

Will my pricing change?
There will be no change in your pricing with the transition of the Digital Microfilm titles to the ProQuest platform.

What about the Digital Microfilm titles that are not upgrading to ProQuest Digitized Newspapers: Recent Newspapers?
While the titles below are not moving to ProQuest Digitized Newspapers: Recent Newspapers, some of these titles will continue to be available in traditional microfilm format-as noted in the second column. If you are interested in these titles in traditional microfilm, please contact your sales representative or ProQuest support for assistance.

Replacement and Alternative Formats
For Digital Microfilm titles not upgrading to ProQuest Recent Newspapers, you may also wish to reach out to your Account Manager to discuss alternative formats or replacement products to assist you with appropriate news coverage at your library. Contact Sales

My library owns a PAL for a Digital Microfilm title that is not moving to ProQuest Recent Newspapers. How will that content be delivered?
We will be contacting all customers affected by this change later this Fall with details and instructions about the delivery options and format of owned content.

I am not sure if my library has paid for PAL content for any years of the non-upgrading titles, how can I find out?
If you are unsure about PAL ownership for your Digital Microfilm titles, please contact us and we will be happy to assist.
