How to synchronize with RefWorks when creating a My Research account

  1. Log in to your RefWorks account at www.refworks.com/refworks.
  2. In RefWorks Classic, select Tools, Update User Information. In RefWorks 2.0, select Update Profile at the top of your screen.
Note: Keep a copy of your login name. Because of OpenAthens and Shibboleth security policies, the login name stored in the RefWorks User Information/Update Profile area is different from what you use when logging into RefWorks or ProQuest from OpenAthens or Shibboleth. Do not change your login name in RefWorks. If you change your login name, your account will be disabled.
  3. Change the Password, and click Update at the bottom of the screen.
  4. If you are not already logged into ProQuest in a separate browser window, navigate to ProQuest.
  5. Click the My Research link at the top right of the ProQuest page.
  6. Click the Create a My Research account link beneath the Sign in button to begin creating an account.
  7. In the Create a My Research account window, complete the form.
  8. Select the checkbox labeled Yes next to the question "Do you have a RefWorks account?"
  9. Three additional text-entry fields will display for you to enter your RefWorks login credentials. Enter your RefWorks login name and the new RefWorks password.
Note: Depending on your institution, you may not need to enter your RefWorks Group code; an administrator may already automatically include the Group code for users. Enter the Group code if you are prompted when you click the Create account button. If you do not know the Group code, ask your administrator or librarian for help.
  10. Click Create account. Your RefWorks and ProQuest accounts are now synchronized. You can now view any of your existing RefWorks citations when you click the Documents tab in My Research.
