Using Field Codes

Each indexed field in a database has a corresponding field code that can be used to enhance the precision of your search. To narrow your search to one or more fields, enter the field code(s) separated by a comma, and enclose the search statement to be limited in parentheses. For example, to find all journal names that include the terms cancer and research, limit to the Publication title field using the pub field code as follows: pub(cancer and research). To find records where the exact phrase "cancer research" appears in the title or abstract fields, enter ti,ab("cancer research").
Note: the Advanced Search form provides drop-down menus allowing you to choose the most common fields available in each database. For a comprehensive list of the available field codes specific to each database, however, be sure to consult the database ProSheets.
