How to get usage statistics for Safari Books Online

 

This document outlines the process of accessing Usage Reports in Safari Books Online. The document contains information on Live Reports and Counter Compliant Reports.

 

You will need:

 

Your Account Manager Username (Email Address) and Password. If you do not have this information ready, please contact ProQuest Support (see Page 5 for contact details)

Live Reports

  1. Log into the Safari Books Online Backoffice, using your account manager username and password

  2. From the menu bar select Reports > Live Report

  3. You will be offered access to the Account Usage Summary and Master Book Usage Report, make your selection by clicking the hyperlink provided

    The Account Usage Summary reports provides information on the total number of valid sessions within a given period, the average session length in minutes, the number of times a session has been rejected, the total number of section viewed and total number of searches.

     

    The Master Book Usage Report provides usage details for each book in your Custom Collection. Providing one line per book and detailing amongst others the ISBN, Book Titles, the Number of Sections contained in the book, its “slot� value and the number of Hits (= number of sections viewed)

     

  4. You will now be asked to select the usage period in YYYYMMDD to YYYYMMDD format. The Account ID is already filled in for you. The last option is to view the report as HTML, XML or XLS (Excel). Click on Search to run your report

  5. Your Usage Report will now be displayed for you

     

    Counter Compliant Reports

    1. Log into the Safari Books Online Backoffice, using your account manager username and password

    2. From the menu bar select Reports > Counter Compliant Reports

    3. You will now be provided with a selection screen offering you three reports. Book Report 2 (R1), Book Report 4 (R1) and Book Report 6 (R1). A short description explains the report. Select a report by selecting Run at the end of the line

    4. On the next page you will be provided with a number of settings, please review the settings for delivery format in the Basic Report Information section and start and end date from the Monthly User View section.

       

      1. Format: You can select from XML, XLS, ASCII, HTML Table and HTML List. XLS is a popular option here as it allows you to review your reports within Excel.

      2. Provide the start and end date for your report. The default settings will ensure that your report covers data from January to the end of the previous month.

    5. Click on at the bottom of the page. This will add your report to a queue in the Safari Books Online Backoffice. You will be notified by email, once your report is available for download. You will also be forwarded to the My Previous Runs section, which is also accessible from Reports > My Previous Runs) showing the scheduled report.

    6. If you do not wish to wait for the confirmation email, you can reload this page after a few minutes to see whether the report has been completed. As soon as it is available a View/Download link allows you to access the report data.

 

My Reports

 

Under Reports > My Reports you will find a listing of all reports available in Safari Books Online, a short description ensures you know what these contain. You schedule them similarly to Counter Compliant Reports.
