Are there any differences in searching ProQuest Dissertations and Theses — UK & Ireland and Index to Theses?
 
Yes. Most of the fields that are available in Index to Theses are also available in PQDT – UK & Ireland, but a few are not.

Search features not available in PQDT – UK & Ireland:
• The British Library catalog number is not searchable in PQDT – UK & Ireland.
• The “class codes” (subject terms) used in Index to Theses have been mapped to ProQuest index terms. This means that the terms used in Index to Theses cannot be searched; instead, users must use ProQuest search terms (A full list of ProQuest index terms is available within the ProQuest interface).
• The proximity searching available in Index to Theses is not available in PQDT – UK & Ireland.
• When searching by name, only last name plus first initial can be used (e.g., “Roberts, M.”).

Search features available in Index to Theses are also available in PQDT – UK & Ireland:
• The Boolean searching available in Index to Theses is available in PQDT – UK & Ireland.
• The wildcard (truncated) searching available in Index to Theses is available in PQDT – UK & Ireland.
