How do I choose a primary subject code?

There is a comprehensive list of subject codes included in your publishing agreement packet. Choose a primary subject code which best describes the content of your paper. This is the category under which your paper will fall in the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database and the citation indices. You may choose up to three additional secondary codes if you wish. Please make sure you have the most up-to-date version of the ProQuest Subject Categories, as older versions may not list all available options.

We have done our best to include a wide range of subject categories in order to accommodate as many fields of study as possible, but there are times when no single code will describe the content of a paper. If you are having trouble selecting subject codes for your paper, please contact a member of the Dissertation Indexing and Searching staff. DIS editors are subject matter experts and will be able to assist you in choosing a subject category.
